SF CHRONICLE
2005 Trecini Russian River Valley Vicini Vineyard Merlot ($35) A surprise winner from heretofore-unknown-to-us Trecini Cellars, this was aged in 40 percent new oak (70 percent French). The nose spoke of black fruit and a flowery perfume, almost Pinot Noir-like. On the palate, it was lovely, with well-managed tannins that come to a pinpoint focus. Although it tasted high in alcohol, it clocked in at 13.9 percent.
Four hundred cases were made.
