2006 Rockpile Zinfandel

2006 Rockpile Zinfandel

7 GOLD MEDALS!

Our Zinfandel from the Rockpile Appellation is big, bold, smooth, and memorable. It's all you love from a Zinfandel. Imagine the tannins mellowing down over the next year and starting to reveal some of that famous Rockpile upfront fruit. The mouth feel and finish have to be tasted to be believed. The palate is a complex mix of spice, blueberry, blackberry, nice dense red fruit, and orchestrated dashes of oak and spice. Mid palate tannins are present followed by the rocky chalky tannins that last for quite a while. Even after you’re done you will experience mocha, dill, anise and a small hint of spicy plum.

Wine Profile

Tasting Notes What an incredible, delicious wine! Your first visual experience with this wine is of a beautiful dark ruby purple, almost like a tourmaline with great depth. The nose is delightful, with aromas of Kona-mocha, earthy pepper and spices, vanilla nut fudge, and dried ripe dark berries. The Rockpile terroir is evident through a supple entry followed by a dry, complex fruity medium body with good depth and smooth yet chewy tannins. To us this is distinctly Zinfandel, absolutely Rockpile.
Winemaker Notes The vineyard's yields exactly one ton per acre and gave us perfect fruit, which means fully ripe, yet not over ripe. It maintains a good amount of natural acid enabling the wine to have structure, balance, age ability and above all food friendliness. Still a very young wine, with some pretty serious tannins. She is still brooding over her fruit for now, but when encountered it's dense, vibrant and focused with an immense depth, rarely encountered.
Food Pairing Notes Beef, chicken, lamb, tomato based pasta dishes, pizza, pork, roast beef, steak, prime rib. Recipes : Rib roast with rosemary and thyme, hearty beef stew, pepper steak, cioppino, roasted Bosc pears with pomegranate glaze, Italian spaghetti sauce with meatballs, BBQ hamburgers, chicken cacciatore, fried chicken, horseradish sauces.
Oak Plan 40% New Oak - 70% French and 23% American

This wine is beautiful. Dark garnet in color with fresh plumb, red berries and cherries with an unmistakable spiciness. Medium full body with balanced acidity. Crushed volcanic rock weaved through a stylish fabric of spicy berries and ripe cherries finishing with good length. This is one of the best Rockpile expressions I've had. Magnificent balance and very stylish. 93 points.
