2009 Russian River Valley Sauvignon Blanc

2009 Russian River Valley Sauvignon Blanc

BEST OF CLASS ♦ 2 GOLD MEDALS

Our Sauvignon Blanc won the 2010 Sonoma County Harvest Fair BEST OF CLASS & 2 GOLD's! Truly a beautiful Sauvignon Blanc.

This wine displays a brilliant, almost sparkling Lime green hue. The nose is beautifully complex with a rich depth of minerality, melon, and crisp grapefruit. The palate is powerfully refreshing. This minerality persists intertwining with the fruit as it expands across the palate to an almost seamless finish. Small poping of tropical flavors and crisp clean acidity throughout the wines delicious journey. Small hints of lime, sweet lemon-grass, and clean minerality help drive this complex and very satisfying Sauvignon Blanc to the last drop.

Wine Profile

Tasting Notes The smooth textured feel and quaffable flavors of this young vibrant wine is beautifully refreshing with a lingering citrus/tropical zingy finish caused by the natural petulance left over from the fermentation and the natural acidity of the sauvignon grape. Pale straw in color, the array of aromas start with fresh apples, citrus, pineapples, dried tropical fruits, and flowers. Mid palate acidity begins after a complex juicy fruit component and the defining experience of sweet lemon grass completes the enjoyment of our Sauvignon Blanc.
Winemaker Notes The 2009 vintage was perhaps the perfect growing season for aromatic white grapes in the Russian River Valley. It was a long moderately cool summer, without any heat spikes during the crucial ripening period. Cool mornings with fog shrouding the vines maintained this Sauvignon Blanc’s keen natural acid structure along with more of the mineral and citrus aspects of its fruit, the warm afternoons, low 80’s help develop more melon and tropical fruit characters, which together have given this wine a very broad and complex range of flavors. The grapes for this vintage came from 2 Russian River Valley vineyards. Our own Vicini Vineyard located in a lower lying area off Shiloh road in Windsor, and from a ranch further north that borders the Russian River itself as it meanders through Healdsburg. The 2 vineyards were harvested and vinified separately until just before fermentation was complete at which time they were blended to create better harmony, balance and integration the fruit.

Pale lavender yellow in color with aromas of papaya, lemon peel, green peaches, tangerine, and white candy. Medium body with brisk acidity that dances on the palate. The fruit is evident and plays hard yet the wine stays crisp and finishes dry with a lingering tone. This specimen is very complex indeed. Very nice! 92 points.
