2010 Russian River Valley Sauvignon Blanc

2010 Russian River Valley Sauvignon Blanc

BEST OF CLASS ♦ GOLD ♦ NEW RELEASE!

Our Sauvignon Blanc won the 2012 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition BEST OF CLASS! Another beautiful Sauvignon Blanc.

The nose is reminiscent of a fresh Spring day, with a sweet fresh grassiness, intertwined with the scents of blossoms and green apples. Again, as in past vintages, this wine displays incredible depth and complexity, which makes it quite difficult to dissect the powerful array of aromas and flavors. We recommend spending some time with each glass and exploring the uniqueness and complexity of what we know will be a classic vintage for Russian River Valley Sauvignon Blancs.

2010 will be remembered as a challenging vintage in Northern California. There was a very cold, wet Spring followed by a chilly Summer, which proved to be difficult for many varietals, but fortunately for us created the ideal conditions needed to produce a world class Sauvignon Blanc.

The Russian River Valley is famous for its cold nights and cool foggy mornings which shroud the vineyards; this occurred more often than not in 2010, often lasting until mid-day. This weather is perfect for creating natural acidity and leading the fruit profile towards greater minerality, and herbaceousness, along with citrus aspects than perhaps warmer vintages would suggest. Later in the season, warm afternoons, in the low 80’s, helped develop more melon and tropical fruit characteristics, which together have given this wine a very broad and complex range of flavors.

These grapes came from two Russian River Valley vineyards, our own Vicini Vineyard , and a small vineyard farmed by our friends, the Herricks; their property is located just south of Healdsburg.

The fruit remained on the vines much later in the season than had ever occurred before; this 'hangtime", as it is known, has given this wine an extraordinary depth and persistence of fruit.

Harvested in late September.

The palate is powerfully refreshing, yet mouth-filling to the point of coating, which is somewhat unusual for this varietal. This minerality persists, which intertwines with the fruit as it expands across the palate to an almost seamless finish. Throughout this wine’s journey, there also seem to be small notes of fruit flavor.

We know this wine will pair with an enormous variety of foods, but none can be more classic than fresh oysters on the half shell. This combination lets both of these partners sing to their full potential, and allows an appreciation of the simplest and cleanest of Mother Nature’s flavors.

Cold at about 48° F, lasting about 4 months.

No malolactic.

100% pure Sauvignon Blanc flavor.

It is our goal to bring to you the finest representation of the grapes that we harvest each year. Careful nurturing in the vineyard and only the gentlest handling in the winery enable us to capture all of the fresh flavors from the grape to the bottle.

To achieve this goal, we only minimally fine, filter and process the wines, which can lead to a small amount of harmless sediment forming in the bottle.

We believe in capturing all of the flavor that wine drinkers want and appreciate in a finely-crafted bottle of wine.

Enjoy!
